Stupid People in a Silly Place

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:36 pm by livefood

I’ve been to this town and stayed there many many times…repeatedly wondering where their heads on at (or in)…what a horrid layout for planning…like NONE…I once stopped into a shop to ask directions and the gentleman told me he couldn’t tell me where to go, but I could buy a map (he had an array)…the guy behind me told me to go one block, turn right and go one block…he told me he was a visitor also. What kind magazine the guy behind the counter was “reading?”

Well look what the dumb folks of that fine town are doing now…

6-Year-Old Scout Suspended for Bringing Knife-Fork-Spoon Utensil to School

I can see sending him home for a day to have a small discussion…but 45 days in reform school? He’s six for God’s sake…are they out of their minds?…probably a tad overpaid…or perhaps they don’t get paid to use their brains.

But at least he didn’t loose his fingers…I coundn’t even read more than the opening paragraphs in this story…it was just too much…don’t tell me any more, I’m can’t take it…

School fined as girl loses fingers in art lesson

It’s getting to be a difficult thing even going to school for people in Afganistan…Zimbawe…but in “civilized”countries…sometimes it’s just plain dangerous.

Woooooooooo, Pig! Sooie!

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:31 am by livefood

Well it’s that time that we have been waiting for…flu season is around the corner and in some locations…it’s upon us. So it’s time for the annual flu shots…or the new nasal spray.

But the inquiring mind of Jim needs to know if you get that swine flu verson do you get any pig qualities…will he have a new excuse for being…well…a pig? Can in use it as an excuse for living with piles of the papers around his desk and boxes in the living room of this and that…the pallet racking in the garage is full…not all of it is his, but he gets the credit.

But if you get the H1N1 shot don’t you start being attracted to pigs and pig-like people…flat turned up noses…floppy ears…running nose…smudges on body…eat just about anything…big and waddle-ee…cute tail? Will you get to grunt around about eveyrthing…or do you still need the ability to speak…I would prefer the grunt, at least you would have the excuse of not being able to understand as oppose to not caring to understand as it now it.

Oh…life as a pig…until someone mentions bacon.

Beauty, Peace and Punches

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:51 am by livefood

The World is turning on itself…much like Mom’s who eat their babies…Rush will “judge” the Miss America contest (thank God he’s onloy one of seven)…that makes sense to some I suppose…he’ll certainly have an opinion…wrong, but an opinion…and President Obama receives a Nobel Peace Prize…even he is wondering what for…I’m sure he’ll earn it someday…just not yet.

Is this a sign that the end is near? We once had a babysitter who’s father had built their home over a bunker…stocked with food and ammo for “the day.” He once told me that all his kids could “cock and load.” Are we that close that the only qualified judge for Miss America is Rush to Judgement Limbaaa? Nobody asked me.

Are we so near the end that we have to give the Peace Prize to someone who has not yet done anything to make Peace happen other than talk about it (a lot)? If that’s the case, give one to my great-grandkid, sex and year of birth yet to be determined.

It’s been so weird in the news this week that I almost can’t think about how goofy football is…not quite, but I can almost not think about it. Go Raiders…to where I have not a clue…and they don’t have one either. They need some leadership and it should start at the top…sure…or the coach…sure. They are in sorry need of some leadership at the top. Talent…I think so. Just not allowed to put it all together. Of course with the coach nails another in the jaw, true leadership seems to be thown with the punch.

The Kids Rocked Last Night

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:07 am by livefood

Funny how some people just don’t listen. Last night I was playing in a house ceili…it’s an Irish thing. We get together in someones home and think we’re making music…sometimes we succeed and sometimes (I’ll be kind) we suck. But it’s a pretty non-confrontational method of playing with others in a common sand box.

We had a great treat last night (usually it’s just cookies and something to drink)…the hostess of the evening had her two kids (ages 5 and 7) play the first tune with us, actualy the two kids asked if they could…really pretty good…well they were…we were on the sucky side. But what a treat to hear these two kids wailing away on their fiddles…boy did their eyes light up with I kicked in the bodhran…probably never heard themselves play with the drum in the background before.

A couple of lessons that I learned last night…well one of the two just started playing the fiddle this summer and she’s playing in front of a dozen people already…no fear. What on earth are we afraid of most of the time…the fear of the unknown. We don’t know what’s going to happen so we’re afraid of it. Silly old people we are.

The other thing I learned is to listen to myself and know I need to improve and then practice more. It was obvious that the kids had practiced. It was obvious that they had improved (we heard the young gentleman earlier in the summer) and they were listening as the various instruments kicked in to the tune. I think they know they are getting better. I think (from listening to a couple of the folks in the circle) that some of old folks need to listen to ourselves …and lets be honest about that…and practice more. The kids outplayed some of the old people.

…what’s also cool about last night…the kids didn’t have any excuses to give or lectures to deliver…they just wanted to play with the group. Fine job they did. I know Mom and Dad were proud of them…okay…we were all so proud of them.

When John Trimble started working on the Irish ceoiltais six or so years ago, I’ll bet he had no idea that we would be treated to the kids last night. What a gift Trimble has left for us here in the North Bay.

Crosswalks Are Dangerous

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:25 am by livefood

I’m not sure if I want to walk in a cross walk again. You can get killed in those things. Have you ever noticed that you don’t normally see a news piece where the pedestrian was j-walking and gets hit by a car and dies…it’s almost always that the poor (or rich) pedi was in the crosswalk and get schmooshed between the lines.

I mean really…it’s bad enough that you just about have to have eyes in the back of your head to keep yourself safe nowadays…but to have eyes on the sides of your head so you can dodge traffic while in the crosswalk is absurd! That’s crazy…can you image in the cost of installing TWO new eyeballs on the sides of everybodies heads…of course we could save a bundle by having only one side installed and make a law that you can only walk across a street going one direction so you can use that one eye…that might be a bit tough on the one way streets…but if half the folks had the eye installed on the right side and the other half of the folks instaffed theirs on the left side, not only could you just ask a buddy to help you across the street in the direction of his/her eye and not your own…but if half the world was a rightie and the other half was a leftie…we would be in political balance too…wow what a concept. I should write my congressman (woman in my case) and tell he of this great way to save money on a health related topic…but I don’t think she can read.

Those crosswalks are just down right dangerous…they should be outlawed…or we should be able to have our healthcare plans install those extra eyes…if we could look sideways we could see the politicians coming and going

Rush to the Rams

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:06 am by livefood

Here’s a good reason not to watch some football:

“In a statement released today (10-6-09), Limbaugh said he’s partnering with St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts in a bid to buy the St. Louis Rams. Limbaugh didn’t go into details, but said he and Checketts “have made a bid to buy the Rams and are continuing the process.”

What kind of dumbass decision sould that be? Are you so hard up for bucks that you would sell to the devil? Remember folks…this is the guy that said something to the effect that McNab was getting so much attention because he was a black quarterback…like he doesn’t have raw talent. The NFL has it’s own problems…they don’t need the point-of-view of this extrememly conservative, yet all too wierd, character named Rush.

Rush should leave the Republican party and form his own. It would suit me fine if anyone attracted to his new party all lived in one state…just make sure I have alternative routes to drive around and fly over…I really don’t want anything to do with the self proclaimed “whatever”…heck I’m not sure what he stands for. The poo flying from his mouth drives me to the brink of insanity and I stop listening the minute his voice is heard…Something tells me that my brink of insantiy is better than the place he went too.

It really pisses me off that he thinks he speaks for the majority of Republicans…not one that I’ve talked too and believe me none are “closet Republicans”…then of course everyone I know is in their right mind (politically or otherwise)…Rush is just too weird…of course that might be perfect for the NFL ownership. Naaa…that really is over the top. He’s just too weird to be an NFL owner.

#200 Is About A Good Thing

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:43 am by livefood

It’s probably fitting that on the 200th post to this blog I write about a story that is pretty darn cool. I’ll skip my usual bitching and moaning and pontificating for the day to share with you a story on Wired Science:

Teen’s DIY Energy Hacking Gives African Village New Hope

There are lots of good things happening in the World…and some pretty horrific things too. I think it’s really what you choose to dwell on that makes you want to laugh or cry. I do little of each and sometimes neither. I laugh at the absolutely incredibly silly things that people do and I can cry for the same reason.

When you read about stories like the one linked here…a straight forward “get ur done” sort of approach to solving problems…and then consider how little the young man had to work with…the raw ingenuity and drive to completion…it really should humble one or two of us. Now he is seeing a bigger picture…quite a story.

Football, Homeless and Handbells

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:10 am by livefood

What a weekend. Just like I thought it would be on Friday…busy. The bad thing about the busy weekend is that it takes the first couple of days of the “workweek” to recover. I don’t know why I try to fake it anyway…my boss is a real whip whenever I look in the mirror and dare him to fire me, I just tell him “no” and we go our same way in total agreement.

I’m tellin gya, I don’t know why I watch football…the raiders lost I see. Cal lost…IDAHO won as did Boise State…and how about those Niners…35 to ZIP…two defensive TDs…one from special teams…and two from the offense without Mr. Gore. Now if they could just give a little confidence to those watching. I sit on pins and needles waiting for a major meltdown…maybe it won’t happen. But they are a whole lot better than the first part of last year and years before. So for those who really care…whoohoo…yippeeskippee…take it away. Still way too much money spent on football and way too little spent on feeding homeless families. Popped that bubble.

Worked with the youthful bell choir at church over the weekend. They’re catching on quickly. It won’t be long and they’ll be wanting to show off a bit…lots of energy in the room. Doing something like this really forces one to take a new look at old ways of doing things…the kids will see things that you never thought of before…really a learning experience for me (and I hope for them).

Drink Beer and Make Music

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:55 pm by livefood

What a night. Two hours of playing in an Irish music session with some nice young and old folks all having a good time. I noticed however that the folks drinking beer knew the tunes and played better than the folks with the wine. Those of who don’t drink sided with the beer folks. If I ever go back to drinking (highly unlikely), I’ll go the beer route. Folks don’t appreciate the bohdran now…I can only imagine what they might think if I drank wine and didn’t know how to play.

It’s Friday…geeze. I hate the thought of having to change over from the work week to the weekend. The schedule for the weekends is sometimes busier than during the “work” part of the week. This one is no exception to that general rule. It’s a packed weekend and I’m tired as I think of it.

Part of the Saturday will be spent looking for a station broadcasting the Boise State vs UC Davis football game. If you read my posts you will notice that I take some fairly substantial pokes at the sport of football. But I love to watch BSU pound their opponents…I love the fact that Boise was rated #5 in the Nation this past week…I love the notion that they may not get a good bowl berth…funny game that football. I can see where the BCS system would be able to screw a team that could be #4 or 5 into the postseason and they end up with a bid for the pretzel bowl in Guam. Still…I feel sorry for the Aggies traveling to Boise to be played with by the Broncos…who by the way have NEVER lost a WAC game on their home turf of blue…HEY and I say this as an alum, not of Boise but of the University of Idaho in Moscow…whom I will root for as an obligatory position when they play each other in mid-November (where Idaho will be able to field their best team in a while, but will probably lose to the Broncos…again).

Back to reality…

#197

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:16 am by livefood

Today is #197. One hundred ninety seven posts to the blog and still thinking of things to wrtie about.

The World changes all the time…and when your blog is about the Universe, well that changes at the speed of light. There is never a time when things aren’t out there to write about or at least think about.

I do the edits for a Church’s web site. I built another site but no longer work on it. The current project is for a Pastor who struggles with technology. He knows it’s powerful, it’s just not part of his nature to think about techno issues. He’s a great guy to lead the Church and he has lots of strong points, he just needs a tad bit of help with the techno stuff and I’m happy to help him with that. The web site changes each week with new pictures and content being sent and changed out through out the year. it’s a very smooth process, the Pastors sermons reflect that.

The site that I built is in need of some help. The Pastor is a techno junkie. He can’t keep his fingers out of the pie and comes up with one idea after another…it’s never finished. It’s not possible to create the architecture to get the pages edited as the goal keep moving, even while the linkages are being created. For a small town Chruch, the design on the fly type of web site just doesn’t make much sense…the updates therefore are lagging (they are about 1 1/2 years behind). The Pastor’s fixation on some issues holds up the process for the entire site…a rocky road of a process if there ever was, the Pastors sermons reflect that.

The wind died down last night…calm today…weather will start getting a tad bit warmer. It’s Fall…it’s going to be getting cooler. Time to start thinking about planting bulbs…and cutting back the perennials and laying down some mulch. We’ll see how much of that gets done this week and next…I’ll wait until the weather does get warmer and not just promises the same.

Wow, #197…that’s quite a bit of typing…and trust me there’s more typing than thinking (as if you couldn’t tell).
