Apples and Appeals

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:36 pm by livefood

I would conveniently misspell. the “apple” and let it go from there…as with all rotten apples.

O.J. Simpson appeals conviction

He may have been found innocent (or at least not convicted ) of killing his wife back in 1994 but that certainly does not mean he didn’t do it. Innocence is court doesn’t mean the person IS innocent…just that it couldn’t be proven beyond a “reasonable doubt” in the minds of the jurors.

He used his money and influence to peddle snake oil then and he tried this time…but carma bit him in the ass…poor baby. That his attorney is filing the 40 some odd pages of poo to the court is yet another crazy waste of the tax money used to pay court folks for reading and responding to the drivel…the time should be billed back to OJ.

Imagine if you can that a poor person…of any color…would be found in the same situation. First it would have never seen the court room and the person would have had a deal cut with some fairly significant jail time (I would hope)…but there wouldn’t be any fancy dancy attorny filing 47 page briefs on behalf of the poor guy (or gal)…it’s the money people…OJ got money and he gots a brand…some folk just want to be in his posse. Not me…get the jerk as far away from me as possible.

I’m sitting in California…land of the liberal nut cases (Rush would shrivel here…maybe not in Orange County)…and any jail in Nevada is just too close. Too bad OJ didn’t COMMIT THE CRIME in Atlantic City so he could be incarcerated there and be another 2800 miles further away.

Better yet…hook him up with Charlie Manson here in California…that would make interesting an “reality show”…the two could be roomies. What fun.

Some Bandwagons Are Good

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:24 pm by livefood

What do you know…

Consumer confidence soars more than expected in May

Thank you USAToday…all the good words help stem the panic, doom and gloom. The only way we can really get out of this dump is to think positively and actively positively.

Sitting around the boob tube watching CNN, Fox and others bash the economy and thinking a bit too much about it doesn’t get us out of the house, creating work and jobs and moving the economy forward.

It’s happening folks…get on the bandwagon…please.

The reality of the situation is just a tad bid more localized that the media folks take the time to study…for example housing in Denver has dropped an average of less that 6 percent…San Francisco over 30%. The jobless rate is less that 5% in some areas and Mendota, CA…it’s over 40%. Where you are will have a big impact on how you feel the recession…what “they” tell you might have a huge impact on what you think about the depression…if you let them.

Its Not Over Until Its Over…and thats not yet.

Certainly not a surprise is it? All the court is saying is that…well you read it…

Calif. high court upholds gay-marriage ban

This is part of a process…albeit a long and somewhat slow one…but it’s just a part of the process and the issue is still on the table. The court clearly outlined the forward direction of the issue and it will become a ballot measure in short order.

A whole lot fo the attention this time around has to be focused on education…particularly Blacks and Hispanics which, while turning out in strong numbers to vote in the presidential election, didn’t think so highly of the Prop. 8 issue…I think that if the polls had seen less turnout in general the measure would have passed…not to say that Blacks and Hispanics should stay away from the polls…please don’t think that way…it’s up to the measure proponents to educate folks a bit differently.

Around this house we talked about the lack of hetero education also…or more overt hetero support.

Next time, along with the education focused on Blacks and Hispanics, more effort needs to be placed in garnering outward support from happily married hetero couples.

I’ve said it before…the big problem is the word “marriage”…and I’m not sold on the word being one the government should be playing with in the first place. A misguided step from years gone by. All of us married folks essentially have two documents a license and a certificate…one from the government and one from our Church. In a civil service, the government performs both…but I don’t think I will ever reconcile the Church …Holy Matrimony deal…our covenant with God…and a civil ceremony performed by “a judge.” So it’s easy for me to separate the two documents. The government should uphold our corporate philosophy and grant equality to all “classes” (I hate that term..have to come up with something more appropriate) of people…Churches, well they can take the road they think is best, but they should remain protected by the separation. If a Church wants to grant a marriage through their faith, that should be left up to them.

The technical use of the word marriage is not a right. The equal treatment of couples under the law is a right our constitution should protect. Two people living together is not a protected act. If those two want equal protection they should be able to apply for it (the license)…if they want to profess their commitment before God, they can probably find many Churches and/or Clergy to perform a religious ceremony…if they want to do the “down and dirty”…judges and justices should be able to perform a civil ceremony.

The color of someone’s skin, their faith background, their physical disabilities…and yes their sexual orientation do not…DO NOT…have a role in my marriage.

I just hope that somewhere somebody thinks this thing is over and gloats about “winning” something…it will be fun to watch them impload in a couple of years.

I Get Confused

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:06 pm by livefood

This is the most bizarro time of the year…is it Baseball, Football, Lacrosse, Hockey, Basketball or Ultimate Frizbee season…it’s warming up and everybody seeme to want to punt, pass, throw, smack, hit, catch, run, jump and generally frolic (although with the exception of Frizbee in Oregon…most do it with their clothes on).

I’m a little tired of all the sports being crammed into the same time of year…but then I think Christmas should be spread over more of the year. It’s such a make-it-or-break-it season for the retail folks I just think that passing around the retail holiday of the year would help the general economy.

We could all line up and count off…one, two, three, four…and those who are the ones celebrate Christmas in the first quarter, twos get the second quarter and so on.

We could think of it as a random act of consumerism. We’re so manipulted now by the “holiday season” why not just use “the season” to help smooth out the economy.

Don’t think we should lay the Christian holiday onto non-Christians? Then I would have to ask, what does an old fat guy wearing a red suit trimmed in fur have to do with Christianity? Please spare me the lecture…I have my ideas and they work for me…any measure of reality thrown into my mix just messes with me.

CC&Rs

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:50 am by livefood

This story sort of sums it up…

Powell to Republicans: Listen to moderates, too

It’s an article published by the Washington Post on Sunday, May 24, 2009 (in case it doesn’t get pulled up as a link…it happens with the WP folks).

CC&Rs in the real estate and legal world are covenants, conditions & restrictions. Just about what Carl, Cheney and Limbby are suggesting…Republicans are making a promise to stay conservative on all issues both social and fiscal…and there are conditions to membership…believe like we do or you’re not really a republican…and if you are a moderate or a liberal you don’t belong.

I’m a moderate Republican…no doubt. I’m not a fan of big mouths…they tend to compete with my own. Rush can take his brand of hate politics and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine. I shouldn’t really call what he does “politics”…he is thinking like an entertainer and probably gets a run down on his show’s demographics and rating daily…he needs too. Rove…hummm, wasn’t there something a bit dark and secretive about something(s) he did while at the WH?…and then there’s Dick. He was an interesting President, don’t you think?

I really enjoy the notion of smaller government. I don’t think our governments can be everything to all people…and certainly don’t think we should expect (nor do we really want) the governemtn to do all for all people. I do like my freedom, but only want to pay “so much” for it. Freedom is not free.

There are some social issues that the government can be a big help with…some medical oversight…some macro regulations…some financcial institutional oversights etc.

There are some social issues that the government will (and has) failed at…legalizing marijuana…abortions…stem cell research…marriages and the like.

Governments tend to fail with they mix social, economic and scientific issues together into a sorr of goo. Goo doesn’t even sound like a good thing.

I’d take Colin Powell anyday over Limbby, Rove or Dick…they would enjoy selling our social concience down the toilet and shooting anybody in the way. The alternative in office now is spending us into an uncertain future.

I don’t think Powell is talking about big government or even anything other than calling for the Party to look and listen too alternative points of view on issues. He’s a big tent person as opposed to a CC&R kind of guy. I’d bet that there are a lot more folks out there that think like he does that like the CC&R group…CC&R are always restrictive by definition…we need to see BIG and act responsibly…and not be so narrow minded about who we are and who can be.

Ethanol…stupid?

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:27 pm by livefood

Here’s a scary story.

The Great Ethanol Scam

The author cites the sources well and has a pretty compelling argument against the fuel…the scary part is the way he thinks congress will take the lobby efforts. Let’s face it, there is a lot of pressure applied to congress through lobbyists…some good causes and some very singular in their approach, that is to say some seem only interested in helping their clients no matter what the cost.

Ethanol doesn’t work like it was sold. IT’s been a boon to farmers growing corn and could be a boon to mechanics., but the owners of the vehicle or tool is taking it in the back side. I don’t know any corn farmers personally, but my mechanics are well fed now. Neither shop needs any additional work…it’s by appointment now and don’t miss is, and show up on time (which means early in both cases)…they don’t need ethanol to help them.

While it is apparent from the article that ethanol at 10% in creating a problem, why on earth would congress even consider raising the limit to 15%? Are they stupid?

The answer to the later…in my opinion (my BLOG)…has been expressed many times in previous posts.

Quick reminder to the answer…duh!

Scientists piece together human ancestry

With all the crazy stuff that is in the news, it’s always nice to read something that is just straight up and cool…no extra hype…no sex or gore…nobody died (well recently in this case)…just good stuff.

Murder or Bankruptcy?

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:00 pm by livefood

Everyone has a challenge or two that they have to deal with…sometimes is pyhsical, sometimes it’s mental and then there are those financial ones that are seemingly more frequent nowadays.

The last one…the money deal…we seem to be seeing (or more properly, hearing and reading about) more and more guys (and they are almost always men), killing their families and then themselves, later to be found to have financial troubles driving their fret.

File bankruptcy…don’t kill the kids.

I’m not a big fan of bankruptcy to solve little problems but there are times (obviously) when that path is a better alternative…kill the kids or file the papers…duh…easy decision from the outside looking in.

There is help available to work throught the financial challenges so many people are going through. Sure, the path may be a bit bumpy and surely a bit twisted…some of it may be a bit humilitating…BUT the kids will thank you for the better decision as they get older.

Don’t you think it’s better to be alive and poor than murdered?
